Tow Yard Release Call Kit
Overview
Use this prompt-only skill when a user's vehicle has been towed and they need to retrieve it quickly without missing required documents, payment rules, release forms, or pickup windows.
The skill produces a call script, release checklist, fee questions, authority-verification steps, and a pickup plan. It emphasizes verifying official yard and payment rules before paying or traveling.
When to Use
Use this skill when the user says things like:
- "My car was towed. What do I do first?"
- "Help me call the tow yard."
- "What should I ask before going to pick up my car?"
- "Make a checklist for getting my vehicle released."
- "I need to know what fees and documents to ask about."
- "The lot says I need police release. What should I confirm?"
Required Inputs
Ask for only the details needed to prepare the call and retrieval plan:
- Where the vehicle was last parked or towed from
- City, neighborhood, private lot, apartment complex, campus, or road context
- Vehicle make, model, color, plate number, and state or province, if the user is comfortable sharing it
- Whether the user is the registered owner, driver, renter, borrower, or company vehicle contact
- Any notice, sticker, text, sign, ticket, police case number, incident number, or tow receipt
- Suspected towing authority, such as police, city parking office, private property, apartment management, or roadside assistance
- Current time, urgency, and whether the user can travel today
- Available documents such as registration, proof of insurance, title, rental agreement, photo ID, or signed release
- Payment methods available and any cash limit, card limit, or need for receipt
Do not ask for full payment card numbers, online account passwords, alarm codes, or one-time codes.
Workflow
- Gather location and vehicle context. Identify where the tow likely originated and whether it was public enforcement, private property, repossession risk, roadside assistance, or unknown.
- Identify the authority. Determine who likely controls release: tow yard, police department, city parking office, property manager, campus office, rental company, lender, or insurance provider.
- Verify official contact path. Encourage using official city, police, property management, roadside assistance, or tow company contact information when available.
- Prepare fee and document questions. List exact questions about release authorization, documents, accepted payment, itemized fees, storage timing, after-hours pickup, and receipt.
- Draft the call script. Provide a short script for confirming the vehicle, required release steps, total cost, pickup window, and next action.
- Plan retrieval. Create a practical pickup plan covering transport to the yard, documents, payment, photos, inspection, receipt, and exit route.
- Add contingency steps. Include what to do if the yard cannot find the vehicle, requires police release, refuses itemized fees, closes soon, or the user is not the registered owner.

Safety Boundary
- Verify official yard, authority, and payment rules before sending money, using a payment link, scanning a code, or traveling to a location.
- Do not advise evading fees, trespassing at a tow yard, confronting staff aggressively, cutting locks, blocking gates, or removing a vehicle without authorization.
- Do not promise fee reductions, refunds, legal outcomes, or release eligibility.
- Do not ask for full payment card numbers, one-time codes, passwords, alarm codes, or private account credentials.
- If the situation may involve a stolen vehicle, police hold, accident, repossession, intoxicated driving, impound after arrest, or a child, pet, medicine, or mobility device trapped in the vehicle, flag urgency and recommend contacting the relevant official emergency, police, property, insurance, rental, or roadside assistance channel.
- Keep scripts calm, factual, and focused on release requirements, fees, proof, and timing.
Example Prompts
Copy and paste one of these to start:
-
"My car was towed from my apartment parking lot overnight. I don't know which tow company took it. Help me figure out who to call, what questions to ask, and what documents I need before I go to the yard."
-
"I got a sticker on my car window with a tow yard address but no phone number. I'm not the registered owner — it's my partner's car. Help me prepare a call script and figure out what release paperwork I'll need."
-
"My car was removed from a street near downtown. I think it was city parking enforcement. The yard closes in 3 hours and I need to know exactly what fees, payment methods, and IDs I need to bring so I don't get turned away."
Install-First Success Path
Input: The user says "My car was towed — help me get it back."
Steps:

- Identifies the likely tow authority: police, city parking, private property, campus, rental company, or unknown.
- Verifies the official contact path using city, police, or property management information.
- Prepares fee and document questions: release authorization, accepted payment, itemized fees, storage timing, and after-hours pickup.
- Drafts a short call script for confirming the vehicle, release steps, total cost, and pickup window.
- Creates a pickup plan covering transport, documents, payment, photos, inspection, and receipt.
- Adds contingency steps for vehicle not found, police release required, non-owner pickup, and closing-time pressure.
Output: A release call kit with situation summary, who to contact, call script, fee questions, release checklist, pickup plan, and contingency steps — ready to use under time pressure.
