Description
Improve Etsy listings with buyer-intent keywords, margin-safe pricing checks, and structured experiments that raise qualified traffic and conversion.
README (SKILL.md)

Setup

On first use, read setup.md for integration guidelines. Ask permission before saving persistent shop context, then continue with the user's current Etsy task immediately.

When to Use

User needs Etsy growth support for listing quality, search visibility, pricing sanity checks, shop positioning, or conversion improvements. Use this skill for repeatable execution, not generic brainstorming.

Architecture

Memory lives in ~/etsy/. See memory-template.md for setup.

~/etsy/
|- memory.md # Stable shop context and operating preferences
|- listing-experiments.md # Experiment log and outcomes
`- launch-checklists.md # Reusable pre-launch and post-launch checks

Core Rules

1. Lock Context Before Recommendations

Confirm the listing category, target buyer, shipping region, production model, and current goal before proposing changes. Without scope, Etsy advice becomes vague and low impact.

2. Build Keyword Clusters, Not Isolated Tags

Create one primary intent cluster and two supporting clusters. Map those terms across title opening words, tags, and first description lines without repeating identical phrasing.

3. Optimize the Full Listing Stack Together

Treat title, images, offer clarity, description opening, and shipping promise as one system. Do not optimize tags alone while weak photos or unclear value proposition remain unresolved.

4. Protect Unit Economics Before Growth Tactics

Estimate a conservative contribution margin including Etsy fees, payment fees, packaging, shipping, and ad spend. Never recommend discount campaigns or paid traffic if the post-fee margin is unclear.

5. Run Controlled Experiments With Traceable Metrics

Change one variable per cycle and measure views, favorites, add-to-cart signals, and conversion rate. Keep each experiment window long enough to avoid false conclusions from short-term noise.

6. Enforce Policy and Trust Constraints

Avoid trademarked terms, unverifiable claims, and misleading delivery promises. When compliance risk exists, state it explicitly and provide a safer alternative.

Etsy Growth Traps

  • Chasing high-volume keywords without buyer fit -> more impressions but weaker conversion.
  • Rewriting titles every day -> unstable learning and no reliable baseline.
  • Pricing from competitor screenshots alone -> hidden fee structure and margin collapse.
  • Ignoring listing photos while tweaking tags -> search traffic may improve but sales stay flat.
  • Scaling ads before listing fundamentals -> expensive traffic with low purchase intent.

Security & Privacy

Data that leaves your machine:

  • None by default from this skill itself

Data that stays local:

  • Shop context and workflow preferences in ~/etsy/

This skill does NOT:

  • Ask for marketplace passwords or payment credentials
  • Post, edit, or publish listings automatically
  • Make undeclared network requests

Scope

This skill ONLY:

  • Structures Etsy listing and shop growth workflows
  • Audits conversion blockers and search relevance gaps
  • Recommends measurable experiments with clear success criteria

This skill NEVER:

  • Guarantees ranking position
  • Invents performance metrics not provided by the user
  • Executes irreversible marketplace actions without confirmation

Usage Guidance
This skill appears coherent and low-risk: it stores shop context locally under ~/etsy/ and does not request credentials. Before installing or using it, confirm the agent actually asks for permission to create files, avoid pasting any marketplace passwords or payment details into the saved memory, and periodically review the contents of ~/etsy/ to ensure no sensitive data was stored. If you want added safety, keep this skill user-invocable (not always-on) so it runs only when you explicitly ask.
Capability Analysis
Type: OpenClaw Skill Name: etsy Version: 1.0.0 The OpenClaw Etsy skill bundle is benign. All files are markdown-based instructions and templates for an AI agent, with no executable code or external dependencies. The skill explicitly states it does not make undeclared network requests, ask for credentials, or perform irreversible actions without confirmation. Crucially, both `SKILL.md` and `setup.md` repeatedly instruct the AI agent to *ask for user permission* before creating or saving any persistent data in the `~/etsy/` directory, and to operate statelessly if permission is declined. This demonstrates a strong commitment to user privacy and control, with no evidence of malicious intent or significant vulnerabilities.
Capability Assessment
Purpose & Capability
Name/description (Etsy listing improvement) align with what the skill asks for: a local config path (~/etsy/) to store shop context and experiment logs. No unrelated binaries, cloud credentials, or services are requested.
Instruction Scope
Instructions are focused on local audits, building/keeping files under ~/etsy/, and running controlled experiments. The skill explicitly says it will ask permission before saving persistent context and claims not to make undeclared network requests. Note: because this is instruction-only (no code), the policy/behavior is implemented as prose — users should verify the agent actually asks for consent and does not autonomously transmit data.
Install Mechanism
No install spec and no code files to write or execute; lowest-risk model for installation. The skill is instruction-only and will not download or install packages.
Credentials
No environment variables, no credentials, and a single declared config path (~/etsy/) which is reasonable for local shop memory and experiment logs.
Persistence & Privilege
always:false and the skill documents that it will ask permission before creating files under ~/etsy/. Persisted state is limited to its own directory and does not request system-wide config changes or other skills' secrets.
How to Use
  1. Make sure OpenClaw is installed (local or Docker)
  2. Run the install command in chat: /install etsy
  3. After installation, invoke the skill by name or use /etsy
  4. Provide required inputs per the skill's parameter spec and get structured output
