Description
SendGrid email integration with API key authentication. Manage marketing campaigns, transactional templates, contacts, suppression lists, sender identities,...
README (SKILL.md)

SendGrid

Connect to Twilio SendGrid to manage email marketing campaigns, transactional templates, contacts, suppression lists, sender identities, IP address pools, and event webhooks.

This skill uses ClawLink for hosted connection flows and credentials so you do not need to configure SendGrid API access yourself.

Setup in 3 Steps

Step 1: Install Step 2: Pair Account Step 3: Connect SendGrid
Install Pair App-specific connection GIF coming soon
Run the install command in OpenClaw Sign in and approve the device Open the dashboard and connect SendGrid

Install

Install the verified ClawLink plugin from ClawHub. After the user confirms, complete the full setup so ClawLink tools are visible in the next OpenClaw chat.

openclaw plugins install clawhub:clawlink-plugin
openclaw config set tools.alsoAllow '["clawlink-plugin"]' --strict-json
openclaw gateway restart

Then tell the user: "OpenClaw has been restarted. Send /new as a standalone message to start a fresh chat, then ask for SendGrid again."

Quick Start

# Check account verification status
clawlink_call_tool --tool "sendgrid_completed_steps"

# Create a new contact
clawlink_call_tool --tool "sendgrid_add_or_update_a_contact" --params '{"contacts": [{"email": "[email protected]", "first_name": "Alice", "last_name": "Smith"}]}'

# Create a transactional template
clawlink_call_tool --tool "sendgrid_create_a_transactional_template" --params '{"name": "Welcome Email Template"}'

Authentication

All SendGrid tool calls are authenticated automatically by ClawLink using your SendGrid API key stored securely in the dashboard.

No API key is required in chat. ClawLink injects your API key into every SendGrid API request on your behalf.

Getting Connected

  1. Install the ClawLink plugin (see Install above).
  2. Pair the plugin with clawlink_begin_pairing if it is not configured yet.
  3. Open https://claw-link.dev/dashboard?add=sendgrid and connect SendGrid with your API key.
  4. Call clawlink_list_integrations to verify the connection is active.

Connection Management

List Connections

clawlink_list_integrations

Response: Returns all connected integrations. Look for sendgrid in the list.

Verify Connection

clawlink_list_tools --integration sendgrid

Response: Returns the live tool catalog for SendGrid.

Reconnect

If SendGrid tools are missing or the connection shows an error:

  1. Direct the user to https://claw-link.dev/dashboard?add=sendgrid
  2. After they confirm, call clawlink_list_integrations to verify
  3. Then call clawlink_list_tools --integration sendgrid

Security & Permissions

  • Access is scoped to the SendGrid account associated with the connected API key.
  • All write operations require explicit user confirmation. Before executing any create, update, or delete call, confirm the target resource and intended effect with the user.
  • Destructive actions (delete campaign, delete suppression, remove write key) are marked as high-impact and must be confirmed.
  • IP address management and account provisioning require Pro or Premier plans — check your plan before attempting these operations.

    ]
  }'

Create a transactional template version

clawlink_call_tool --tool "sendgrid_create_a_new_transactional_template_version" \

    "name": "Newsletter Unsubscribes",
"description": "Recipients who opted out of newsletter emails"
  }'

Add IPs to an allow list

clawlink_call_tool --tool "sendgrid_add_one_or_more_ips_to_the_allow_list" \

  --params '{
    "url": "https://your-app.com/webhook/sendgrid",
"events": ["delivered", "open", "click", "bounce", "dropped"]
  }'

Discovery Workflow

  1. Call clawlink_list_integrations to confirm SendGrid is connected.
  2. Call clawlink_list_tools --integration sendgrid to see the live catalog.
  3. Treat the returned list as the source of truth. Do not guess or assume what tools exist.
  4. If the user describes a capability but the exact tool is unclear, call clawlink_search_tools with a short query and integration sendgrid.
  5. If no SendGrid tools appear, direct the user to https://claw-link.dev/dashboard?add=sendgrid.

Execution Workflow

┌─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
│ READ OPERATIONS (Safe) │
│ list → get → describe → call │
│ │
│ Example: Check verification status → List contacts │
└─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
                               │
                               ▼
┌─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
│ WRITE OPERATIONS (Require Confirmation) │
│ describe → preview → confirm → call │
│ │
│ Example: Describe tool → Preview changes → User approves │
│ → Execute create │
└─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
  1. For unfamiliar tools, ambiguous requests, or any write action, call clawlink_describe_tool first.
  2. Use the returned guidance, schema, whenToUse, askBefore, safeDefaults, examples, and followups to shape the call.
  3. Prefer read, list, and get operations before writes when that reduces ambiguity.
  4. For writes or anything marked as requiring confirmation, call clawlink_preview_tool first.
  5. Execute with clawlink_call_tool. Pass confirmation only after the preview matches the user's intent.
  6. If the tool call fails, report the real error. Do not invent results or restate the failure as a missing capability unless the live catalog supports that conclusion.

Notes

  • IP address management tools (add, create pools, assign subusers) require Pro or Premier plans — Essential/Free plans will receive errors.
  • Reseller-only endpoints (create_an_account, authenticate_an_account_with_single_sign_on) return 403 for non-partner accounts.
  • Contact operations are asynchronous — add_or_update_a_contact returns a job_id for tracking import status.
  • Custom field names must be unique and cannot use reserved names (first_name, last_name, email, created_at, etc.).
  • Suppression group names and descriptions are visible to recipients when they manage email preferences.
  • Date fields for custom fields use MM/DD/YYYY format or epoch timestamp.
  • Branded links require domain authentication — authenticate the domain first before creating branded links.
  • SSO features require Enterprise plan or higher.

Error Handling

Status / Error Meaning
Tool not found The tool name does not exist in the current catalog. Verify with clawlink_list_tools --integration sendgrid.
Missing connection SendGrid is not connected. Direct the user to https://claw-link.dev/dashboard?add=sendgrid.
403 Forbidden The API key lacks permissions for this operation, or the feature requires a higher plan (Pro/Premier/Enterprise).
400 Bad Request Invalid parameters — check the tool schema with clawlink_describe_tool.
404 Not Found The referenced resource (campaign, template, IP) does not exist.
429 Too Many Requests Rate limit exceeded — wait and retry with exponential backoff.
Write rejected User did not confirm a write action. Always confirm before executing writes.

Troubleshooting: Tools Not Visible

  1. Check that the ClawLink plugin is installed:
    openclaw plugins list

  2. If the plugin is installed but tools are missing, tell the user to send /new as a standalone message to reload the catalog.
  3. If a fresh chat does not help, run:
    openclaw config set tools.alsoAllow '["clawlink-plugin"]' --strict-json
    openclaw gateway restart

  4. After restart, tell the user to send /new again and retry.

Troubleshooting: Invalid Tool Call

  1. Ensure the integration slug is exactly sendgrid.
  2. Use clawlink_describe_tool to verify parameter names and types before calling.
  3. For write operations, always call clawlink_preview_tool first.
  4. Verify plan requirements — IP management and SSO require Pro/Enterprise plans.

Usage Guidance
Install only if you trust this maintainer workflow in the repository where it will run. Use `--no-yolo` or `AUTOREVIEW_YOLO=0` for autoreview unless full filesystem/network authority is intentional, and require explicit confirmation for moderation, migrations, installs, upgrades, PR publishing, and other remote or destructive actions.

Capability Assessment
Purpose & Capability
The skills are coherent for ClawHub maintenance, Convex setup/auth/migrations/performance work, UI proof, moderation, and code review. High-impact actions such as user bans, role changes, migrations, publishing proof, and package installs are generally tied to those stated purposes.
Instruction Scope
Most high-impact workflows require explicit targets, reasons, verification, or confirmation, but the autoreview helper defaults to `--dangerously-bypass-approvals-and-sandbox --sandbox danger-full-access` for nested Codex review, creating broad local authority for a review-oriented task.
Install Mechanism
No hidden install-time persistence was found in the inspected skill files; the main executable surface is an on-demand bash helper and documented repo-local commands.
Credentials
Credentials and environment variables appear in expected contexts such as auth setup, Convex deployment, GitHub PR review, and moderator tooling. I did not find artifact-backed credential exfiltration instructions.
Persistence & Privilege
The skills do not show hidden background persistence, but documented workflows can mutate local files, remote ClawHub moderation state, GitHub PR comments, Convex data, and installed skills; the full-access autoreview default is the main containment concern.
How to Use
  1. Make sure OpenClaw is installed (local or Docker)
  2. Run the install command in chat: /install sendgrid-email
  3. After installation, invoke the skill by name or use /sendgrid-email
  4. Provide required inputs per the skill's parameter spec and get structured output
