README (SKILL.md)

Semantic Scholar

Operate Semantic Scholar through your OOMOL-connected account. This skill calls the semantic_scholar connector with the oo CLI; OOMOL injects credentials server-side, so you never handle raw tokens.

Category: AI, Data & Analytics. Exposes 16 action(s).

Running an action

Assume the user has already installed the oo CLI, signed in, and connected Semantic Scholar. Do not run oo auth login or open the connection URL proactively — just run the action. Fall back to First-time setup only when a command actually fails with an auth or connection error.

1. Inspect the contract to get the authoritative input/output schema before building a payload:

oo connector schema "semantic_scholar" --action "\x3Caction_name>"

2. Run the action with a JSON payload that matches the input schema:

oo connector run "semantic_scholar" --action "\x3Caction_name>" --data '\x3Cjson>' --json
  • --data takes a JSON object string or @path/to/file.json; omit it to send {}.
  • The response is { "data": ..., "meta": { "executionId": "..." } }; the execution id lives under meta.executionId.

Each action below links to a reference file with its purpose and exact commands. Read the linked file, then fetch the live schema with oo connector schema before constructing --data.

Available actions

  • autocomplete_papers — Suggest Semantic Scholar paper query completions.
  • bulk_search_papers — Bulk-search Semantic Scholar papers and page through large result sets with tokens.
  • get_author — Get details for a Semantic Scholar author.
  • get_author_papers — List papers written by a Semantic Scholar author.
  • get_authors — Get details for multiple Semantic Scholar authors at once.
  • get_paper — Get details for a Semantic Scholar paper by paper ID or external identifier.
  • get_paper_authors — List authors for a Semantic Scholar paper.
  • get_paper_citations — List papers that cite a Semantic Scholar paper.
  • get_paper_references — List papers referenced by a Semantic Scholar paper.
  • get_papers — Get details for multiple Semantic Scholar papers at once.
  • match_paper_title — Find the best Semantic Scholar paper match for a paper title.
  • recommend_for_paper — Get recommended Semantic Scholar papers for one positive example paper.
  • recommend_papers — Get recommended Semantic Scholar papers from positive and optional negative examples.
  • search_authors — Search Semantic Scholar authors by name.
  • search_papers — Search Semantic Scholar papers by relevance with optional publication filters.
  • search_snippets — Search text snippets in Semantic Scholar papers.

Safety

  • Read actions (get / list / search) are safe to run directly.
  • Create, update, send, or post actions change Semantic Scholar state — confirm the exact payload and effect with the user before running.
  • Delete or remove actions are destructive — always confirm the target and get explicit approval first.

First-time setup

These are one-time steps — do not repeat them on every call. Run a step only when a command fails for the matching reason.

  • oo: command not found — install the oo CLI (other platforms: \x3Chttps://cli.oomol.com/install-guide.md>):

    curl -fsSL https://cli.oomol.com/install.sh | bash # macOS / Linux

    irm https://cli.oomol.com/install.ps1 | iex # Windows PowerShell

  • Not signed in / authentication error — sign in to your OOMOL account once:

    oo auth login

  • scope_missing / credential_expired / app_not_ready / app_not_found — Semantic Scholar is not connected, or the connection expired or lacks a scope. Connect once (auth type: API key) at:

    https://console.oomol.com/app-connections?provider=semantic_scholar

  • HTTP 402 / OOMOL_INSUFFICIENT_CREDIT — billing stop. Recharge at https://console.oomol.com/billing/token-recharge before retrying.

Resources

Usage Guidance
Install this only if you are comfortable connecting Semantic Scholar through OOMOL and allowing the oo CLI to make research-data queries on your behalf. Review the first-time CLI install command before running it, and monitor OOMOL billing or credit use for large searches.

Capability Assessment
Purpose & Capability
The stated purpose, action files, and commands all align around read-oriented Semantic Scholar workflows such as paper search, author lookup, citations, references, and recommendations.
Instruction Scope
Instructions are scoped to inspecting connector schemas and running named semantic_scholar actions through the oo CLI; no hidden prompt manipulation or unrelated agent behavior was found.
Install Mechanism
The skill documents first-time oo CLI installation via curl|bash or PowerShell only as a fallback when the CLI is missing, which is disclosed but should still be treated as a normal third-party installer risk.
Credentials
The requested Bash(oo *) authority is proportionate to using the OOMOL connector, and the artifacts do not include executable scripts or local file indexing beyond optional JSON payload input.
Persistence & Privilege
The skill requires a connected Semantic Scholar API key through OOMOL, with credentials described as injected server-side; it does not ask the agent to handle raw tokens or create persistence.
How to Use
  1. Make sure OpenClaw is installed (local or Docker)
  2. Run the install command in chat: /install oo-semantic-scholar
  3. After installation, invoke the skill by name or use /oo-semantic-scholar
  4. Provide required inputs per the skill's parameter spec and get structured output
Version History
v1.0.0
- Adds a Semantic Scholar skill for querying research paper and author data through the OOMOL `semantic_scholar` connector. - Supports paper discovery workflows including relevance search, bulk search, autocomplete, title matching, and snippet search. - Provides paper detail actions for single or multiple papers, including authors, citations, references, and external identifiers. - Provides author lookup workflows, including author search, single or bulk author details, and papers by author. - Adds recommendation actions for finding related papers from one paper or from positive and negative example sets. - Documents the standard `oo connector schema` and `oo connector run` workflow, with guidance for auth, connection, billing, and safe action execution.
