README (SKILL.md)

OpenAlex

Operate OpenAlex through your OOMOL-connected account. This skill calls the openalex connector with the oo CLI; OOMOL injects credentials server-side, so you never handle raw tokens.

Category: Data & Analytics. Exposes 5 action(s).

Running an action

Assume the user has already installed the oo CLI, signed in, and connected OpenAlex. Do not run oo auth login or open the connection URL proactively — just run the action. Fall back to First-time setup only when a command actually fails with an auth or connection error.

1. Inspect the contract to get the authoritative input/output schema before building a payload:

oo connector schema "openalex" --action "\x3Caction_name>"

2. Run the action with a JSON payload that matches the input schema:

oo connector run "openalex" --action "\x3Caction_name>" --data '\x3Cjson>' --json
  • --data takes a JSON object string or @path/to/file.json; omit it to send {}.
  • The response is { "data": ..., "meta": { "executionId": "..." } }; the execution id lives under meta.executionId.

Each action below links to a reference file with its purpose and exact commands. Read the linked file, then fetch the live schema with oo connector schema before constructing --data.

Available actions

  • autocomplete — Return OpenAlex autocomplete suggestions for a search string.
  • get_entity — Get one OpenAlex entity by identifier from a supported collection.
  • get_work — Get one OpenAlex work by identifier.
  • list_entities — List, search, filter, page, or group OpenAlex entities from the supported collections.
  • list_works — List, search, filter, page, or group OpenAlex works with work-focused normalized fields.

Safety

  • Read actions (get / list / search) are safe to run directly.
  • Create, update, send, or post actions change OpenAlex state — confirm the exact payload and effect with the user before running.
  • Delete or remove actions are destructive — always confirm the target and get explicit approval first.

First-time setup

These are one-time steps — do not repeat them on every call. Run a step only when a command fails for the matching reason.

  • oo: command not found — install the oo CLI (other platforms: \x3Chttps://cli.oomol.com/install-guide.md>):

    curl -fsSL https://cli.oomol.com/install.sh | bash # macOS / Linux

    irm https://cli.oomol.com/install.ps1 | iex # Windows PowerShell

  • Not signed in / authentication error — sign in to your OOMOL account once:

    oo auth login

  • scope_missing / credential_expired / app_not_ready / app_not_found — OpenAlex is not connected, or the connection expired or lacks a scope. Connect once (auth type: API key) at:

    https://console.oomol.com/app-connections?provider=openalex

  • HTTP 402 / OOMOL_INSUFFICIENT_CREDIT — billing stop. Recharge at https://console.oomol.com/billing/token-recharge before retrying.

Usage Guidance
Install this if you want an agent to use your OOMOL-connected OpenAlex access for literature/entity search and lookup. Before using first-time setup commands, make sure you trust the OOMOL oo CLI installer, and be aware that connector calls may use your connected account and credits.

Capability Assessment
Purpose & Capability
The stated purpose is to search and read OpenAlex data, and the artifact exposes only autocomplete, get, list, and search-style OpenAlex actions through the OOMOL connector.
Instruction Scope
Instructions are scoped to OpenAlex connector schema inspection and action execution, with explicit confirmation language for hypothetical mutating or destructive actions.
Install Mechanism
The package contains only markdown files and no executable scripts, but its first-time setup documentation includes remote installer commands for the oo CLI if the CLI is missing.
Credentials
The allowed tool scope is narrow, Bash(oo *), but using the skill depends on an OOMOL-connected account and may send queries through OOMOL/OpenAlex and use account credits.
Persistence & Privilege
The skill does not create background persistence itself; optional oo CLI login or OpenAlex connection setup can establish persistent account/session state outside the skill.
How to Use
  1. Make sure OpenClaw is installed (local or Docker)
  2. Run the install command in chat: /install oo-openalex
  3. After installation, invoke the skill by name or use /oo-openalex
  4. Provide required inputs per the skill's parameter spec and get structured output
Version History
v1.0.0
- Initial release of `oo-openalex`, providing OpenAlex access through the OOMOL `openalex` connector and `oo` CLI. - Added autocomplete support for discovering OpenAlex entities from search strings. - Added lookup actions for retrieving a single OpenAlex work or supported entity by identifier. - Added list/search actions for OpenAlex works and entities, including filtering, pagination, and grouping workflows. - Uses live connector schemas before execution so requests stay aligned with the current OpenAlex action contracts.
