README (SKILL.md)

Store Policy Writer

Every ecommerce store needs clear, professional policies to build customer trust, reduce support tickets, and meet legal requirements — but writing them from scratch is tedious and easy to get wrong. This skill generates complete, ready-to-publish store policies tailored to your specific business model, product types, fulfillment methods, and target markets, covering returns and refunds, shipping and delivery, privacy and data handling, and terms of service.

Use when

  • You are launching a new Shopify, WooCommerce, or standalone ecommerce store and need to create all required legal and operational policies before going live
  • You are expanding to a new marketplace like Amazon, TikTok Shop, or Shopee and need policies that comply with that platform's specific seller requirements and buyer protection standards
  • Your current store policies were copied from a generic template and you want professionally written versions that actually reflect your business model, product categories, and fulfillment workflow
  • You have received customer complaints, chargebacks, or negative reviews citing unclear return windows, hidden shipping fees, or confusing refund processes and need to rewrite your policies for clarity
  • You are adding new fulfillment methods such as dropshipping, print-on-demand, or subscription boxes and need your shipping and returns policies updated to cover these models accurately

What this skill does

The Store Policy Writer collects key details about your business — what you sell, how you ship, where your customers are located, and what your return philosophy is — then generates four complete policy documents ready to paste into your store. Each policy is written in clear, customer-friendly language that balances legal protection with readability. The returns and refunds policy covers eligibility windows, condition requirements, refund methods, and exchange procedures. The shipping policy details processing times, carrier options, estimated delivery windows, international shipping considerations, and who pays for what. The privacy policy covers data collection practices, cookie usage, third-party sharing, and customer rights in language aligned with GDPR and CCPA frameworks. The terms of service establish the legal relationship between your store and customers, covering intellectual property, limitation of liability, dispute resolution, and account termination. All policies are customized to your inputs rather than being generic boilerplate, so they accurately describe how your business actually operates.

Inputs required

  • business_name (required): Your store or company name as it should appear in all policy documents. Example: "Horizon Outdoor Co."
  • product_types (required): The categories of products you sell, since policy language differs significantly between physical goods, digital products, perishables, and custom-made items. Example: "custom-engraved jewelry and accessories"
  • fulfillment_model (required): How orders are fulfilled — in-house warehouse, third-party logistics, dropshipping, print-on-demand, or a combination. Example: "dropshipping from suppliers in China with 3PL warehouse in California for US orders"
  • return_window_days (required): How many days customers have to initiate a return after delivery. Example: "30"
  • target_markets (required): The countries or regions where you sell and ship to, since this affects privacy law requirements and shipping policy details. Example: "United States, Canada, European Union, and United Kingdom"
  • store_platform (optional): The ecommerce platform you use, so policies can reference platform-specific features like Shopify's checkout or Amazon's A-to-Z guarantee. Example: "Shopify"
  • special_conditions (optional): Any unique policy requirements such as final-sale categories, restocking fees, subscription cancellation terms, or hazardous materials disclaimers. Example: "Earrings are final sale for hygiene reasons; subscription boxes can be cancelled anytime before the 15th of the month"

Output format

The output contains four complete policy documents, each clearly labeled and ready to copy into your store. The Returns and Refunds Policy includes sections for eligibility criteria, condition requirements, step-by-step return instructions, refund processing timeline, exchange options, and any exclusions or special conditions. The Shipping Policy includes sections for order processing times, domestic and international shipping options with estimated delivery windows, shipping cost structure, tracking information, lost or damaged package procedures, and any restricted shipping zones. The Privacy Policy includes sections for information collected, how data is used, cookie and tracking technology disclosure, third-party service providers, data retention periods, customer rights under applicable privacy laws, and contact information for privacy inquiries. The Terms of Service includes sections for acceptance of terms, account responsibilities, intellectual property, prohibited activities, limitation of liability, dispute resolution mechanism, governing law, and modification notice procedures. Each document is formatted with clear headings and plain-language paragraphs suitable for direct publication on any ecommerce platform.

Scope

  • Designed for: ecommerce store owners, Shopify merchants, Amazon and marketplace sellers, and DTC brand operators
  • Platform context: Shopify, WooCommerce, Amazon, TikTok Shop, Shopee, BigCommerce, and platform-agnostic online stores
  • Language: English

Limitations

  • Generated policies are templates based on common ecommerce practices and should be reviewed by a qualified attorney before publication, especially for businesses operating in heavily regulated industries or multiple jurisdictions
  • Does not provide legal advice or guarantee compliance with any specific law or regulation; privacy policy language references GDPR and CCPA frameworks but may not satisfy all requirements for every jurisdiction
  • Cannot account for industry-specific regulations such as FDA requirements for supplements, age verification for alcohol, or firearms transfer laws that may require additional policy sections beyond what this skill generates
