README (SKILL.md)

Grant Writer

Write winning grant proposals and funding applications. Works for government grants (SBIR, Innovate UK, Horizon Europe), foundation grants, and corporate funding programs.

What It Does

Takes your project details and produces a complete, submission-ready grant application:

  • Needs Statement — data-backed problem definition with citations
  • Project Narrative — methodology, timeline, milestones, deliverables
  • Budget Justification — line-item budget with cost rationale
  • Evaluation Plan — measurable outcomes, KPIs, success criteria
  • Sustainability Plan — how the project continues post-funding
  • Letters of Support — draft templates for partners/stakeholders

Usage

Tell the agent:

  1. Grant program — which funder and call (e.g., "SBIR Phase I", "Innovate UK Smart Grant")
  2. Organization — who you are, what you do, team size
  3. Project — what you want to build, the problem it solves, who benefits
  4. Budget — total ask, major cost categories
  5. Timeline — project duration and key milestones

The agent will research the funder's priorities, match your project to their criteria, and draft each section using grant-writing best practices.

Grant-Writing Framework

Structure (follows standard federal/foundation format)

  1. Cover Letter — 1 page, hooks the reviewer
  2. Executive Summary — 250 words, problem → solution → impact → ask
  3. Statement of Need — data-driven, cites 3-5 sources, quantifies the gap
  4. Goals & Objectives — SMART format (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound)
  5. Methods & Approach — what you'll do, step by step, with justification
  6. Evaluation — how you'll measure success, what data you'll collect
  7. Budget & Justification — every dollar explained, tied to activities
  8. Organizational Capacity — why your team can deliver
  9. Sustainability — life after the grant ends

Scoring Tips (built into every draft)

  • Lead with impact, not technology
  • Use the funder's language — mirror their strategic plan
  • Quantify everything: people served, dollars saved, outcomes improved
  • Show collaboration — funders want ecosystems, not islands
  • Budget should be 10-15% of narrative length
  • Include a logic model if the funder uses one

Common Mistakes the Agent Avoids

  • Vague objectives ("improve outcomes" → "reduce processing time by 40% within 12 months")
  • Budget padding without justification
  • Ignoring the evaluation criteria weights
  • Writing to impress instead of writing to score
  • Missing the "so what?" — always connect to funder priorities

Tips

  • Run this skill once per grant program — it tailors language to each funder
  • Paste the actual RFP/call text for best results
  • Ask the agent to score your draft against the rubric before submitting
  • Use with the AfrexAI Context Packs for industry-specific data and language
Usage Guidance
This skill appears coherent and instruction-only, but review the following before use: (1) If you paste RFPs or internal documents, avoid including confidential personal data or secrets — the agent may transmit or use that text during processing. (2) If your agent platform grants the skill web/browsing access, verify what outbound network capability you permit (the skill will 'research' funders). (3) Validate all factual claims, citations, and budget math the agent produces — the skill drafts content but may hallucinate details. (4) Check funder-specific submission templates/formatting and legal requirements yourself before submitting. Overall this looks like a purpose-aligned, low-risk skill; proceed if you’re comfortable with the agent’s browsing/data-use settings.
Capability Analysis
Type: OpenClaw Skill Name: afrexai-grant-writer Version: 1.0.0 The skill bundle is benign. All instructions in SKILL.md and README.md are focused on guiding the AI agent's content generation for grant proposals, aligning perfectly with its stated purpose. There are no prompt injection attempts to manipulate the agent into performing unauthorized actions, exfiltrating data, or executing system commands. External links point to related products/marketing materials on GitHub Pages, which is not suspicious in this context.
Capability Assessment
Purpose & Capability
The README and SKILL.md describe a grant-proposal generator (research funder priorities, draft sections, budgets, letters). There are no declared environment variables, binaries, or installs that would be out of scope for this purpose.
Instruction Scope
The SKILL.md tells the agent to 'research the funder's priorities' and to accept pasted RFP text. This is consistent with grant-writing but implies the agent may fetch web information or use platform browsing capabilities; the instructions do not ask the agent to read unrelated local files or secret tokens.
Install Mechanism
No install spec or code files are included (instruction-only). This minimizes on-disk risk — nothing is downloaded or executed by the skill itself.
Credentials
No environment variables, credentials, or config paths are required. The skill does not request unrelated secrets or broad environment access.
Persistence & Privilege
No elevated persistence (always:true) or modification of other skill configs is requested. Default autonomous invocation is allowed but is standard for skills and not combined with other privilege escalation indicators.
How to Use
  1. Make sure OpenClaw is installed (local or Docker)
  2. Run the install command in chat: /install afrexai-grant-writer
  3. After installation, invoke the skill by name or use /afrexai-grant-writer
  4. Provide required inputs per the skill's parameter spec and get structured output
