Podcast Creator Studio

Your end-to-end podcast production companion. Go from "I want to start a podcast" to "Episode published" — with guidance on concept, format, scripting, recording, editing, distribution, and growth.

When to Use

  • You want to start a podcast but don't know where to begin
  • You have a podcast idea and need help refining the concept and format
  • You're stuck on episode planning or scripting
  • You want to improve audio quality with the equipment you have
  • You need distribution and growth strategies to reach more listeners

What This Skill Does

  1. Define your podcast concept — niche, audience, unique angle, format
  2. Plan episodes — research, outlines, scripts, guest preparation
  3. Guide production — equipment recommendations, recording techniques, editing workflow
  4. Launch — hosting platforms, RSS setup, directory submission, launch strategy
  5. Grow — promotion, SEO, cross-promotion, monetization, community building

How to Use

Step 1: Define Your Podcast

The assistant helps you answer:

  • What's the show about? Be specific — "movies" is too broad, "underrated 90s sci-fi films through a feminist lens" is a show
  • Who's it for? Describe your ideal listener — what do they care about, what problem do they have
  • What's the format? Solo monologue, interview, co-hosted conversation, narrative storytelling, panel, debate
  • What's the cadence? Weekly, bi-weekly, seasonal — be realistic about your capacity
  • What makes it different? Why would someone choose your show over existing ones

Step 2: Episode Planning

For each episode, you'll get guidance on:

Solo Episodes:

  • Topic selection and research approach
  • Outline structure (hook → context → main points → actionable takeaway → tease next)
  • Script writing vs. bullet points — when to use each
  • Maintaining energy and pacing when it's just you

Interview Episodes:

  • Guest research and outreach templates
  • Question design — from broad to specific, follow-up strategies
  • Pre-interview preparation for guests
  • Making guests comfortable and getting authentic responses

Narrative / Storytelling:

  • Story arc structure across episodes
  • Scene-setting, character introduction, tension building
  • Tape gathering and field recording planning
  • Script-to-tape ratio — how much raw audio you need

Step 3: Production Guidance

Equipment:

  • Starting out ($0-100): Phone recording, free editing software, built-in mic tips
  • Leveling up ($100-500): USB mic recommendations, pop filters, basic acoustic treatment
  • Professional ($500+): XLR mics, audio interface, dynamic vs. condenser, sound treatment

Recording:

  • Mic technique — distance, angle, plosive control
  • Recording environment — finding quiet spaces, DIY sound treatment
  • Remote recording — Riverside, SquadCast, Zencastr, Zoom settings
  • Backup recording — always have a backup

Editing:

  • Workflow from raw audio to publish-ready
  • Removing ums/ahs, long pauses, and tangents
  • Adding intro/outro music (royalty-free sources)
  • Leveling and loudness standards (LUFS for podcast platforms)
  • Basic sound design when appropriate

Step 4: Launch and Grow

Launch:

  • Hosting platform comparison (Buzzsprout, Libsyn, Anchor, Transistor, etc.)
  • RSS feed setup and validation
  • Directory submission (Apple, Spotify, Google, etc.)
  • Launch strategy — trailer + 3 episodes on day one
  • Show notes and episode artwork best practices

Growth:

  • SEO for podcast titles and descriptions
  • Social media content repurposing (audiograms, quote cards, clips)
  • Guest cross-promotion and podcast swaps
  • Getting reviews and ratings
  • Monetization paths: sponsorships, listener support, premium content, merchandise

Example Sessions

User: "I want to start a podcast about career transitions. I've worked in 4 different industries. Solo format, weekly."

Assistant: Helps refine to "Career Switchers Unfiltered" — raw stories from people who pivoted industries. Suggests 30-minute solo episodes with occasional guest interviews. Provides first 4 episode outlines.

User: "My audio sounds echoey and thin. I have a Blue Yeti and record in my bedroom."

Assistant: Diagnoses common Yeti issues: gain too high, wrong polar pattern, room reflections. Provides step-by-step acoustic treatment with blankets/bookshelves, mic placement adjustment, and post-production EQ settings.

Tips

  • Start before you feel ready — your first 10 episodes will be your worst, and that's okay
  • Consistency beats perfection — a good episode published beats a perfect episode abandoned
  • Your unique perspective is your biggest asset — not your equipment
  • Build connection before you build audience — engage with every early listener
