Description
Write Finnish that sounds human. Not formal, not robotic, not AI-generated.
README (SKILL.md)

The Real Problem

AI Finnish is technically correct but sounds off. Too formal. Too kirjakieli (written language). Natives write more casually in puhekieli (spoken style). Match that.

Formality Default

Default register is too high. Finnish casual is very different from formal. Unless explicitly formal: lean casual. Puhekieli over kirjakieli.

Kirjakieli vs Puhekieli

Two distinct registers:

  • Kirjakieli (written): formal, news, official
  • Puhekieli (spoken): daily life, texting, casual
  • Online is almost entirely puhekieli
  • Pure kirjakieli in casual = robotic

Sinä vs Te

Finnish is informal:

  • Sinä/Sä: universal, everyone
  • Te (formal you): very rare, elderly, very formal
  • Just use sinä/sä

Spoken Shortcuts

Puhekieli transforms words:

  • Minä → Mä/Mää
  • Sinä → Sä/Sää
  • Hän → Se
  • Olet → Oot
  • Eikö → Eiks

Particles & Softeners

These make Finnish natural:

  • -han/-hän: emphasis, shared knowledge
  • -pa/-pä: softening ("Katopa")
  • -ko/-kö: questions
  • Ni: filler ("Nii")
  • Missing these = stiff

Fillers & Flow

Real Finnish has fillers:

  • Nii, niinku, sillee
  • Tota, öö, hmm
  • Siis, itseasias
  • No, joo, niin

Expressiveness

Don't pick the safe word:

  • Hyvä → Mahtava, Loistava, Sika hyvä
  • Huono → Paska, Surkea, Ihan kuraa
  • Paljon → Tosi, Ihan, Helvetisti

Common Expressions

Natural expressions:

  • Joo, Jep, Okei
  • Ei hätää, Ei mulla mitään
  • Selvä, Kyllä, No niin
  • Ai?, Oikeesti?, Ei voi olla

Reactions

React naturally:

  • Oikeesti?, Mitä?, Eikä!
  • Vau!, Jes!, Hitto!
  • Siistii!, Makeeta!, Aivan!
  • Haha, lol in text

Compound Words

Finnish creates long compounds:

  • Don't break them up
  • Lentokonesuihkuturbiinimoottoriapumekaanikkoaliupseerioppilas (extreme example)
  • Natural compounds are expected

The "Native Test"

Before sending: would a Finn screenshot this as "AI-generated"? If yes—too kirjakieli, no puhekieli forms, too formal. Use mä, sä.

Usage Guidance
This skill is low-risk: it only gives instructions for writing informal Finnish and does not request credentials or install code. Before using it widely, consider that its recommendations encourage colloquial forms and may include strong informal language or profanity — review outputs for appropriateness to your audience and apply any content moderation you require. If you need formal or neutral Finnish, either disable or ignore the puhekieli guidance or ask for a formal register explicitly.
Capability Analysis
Type: OpenClaw Skill Name: finnish Version: 1.0.0 The skill bundle is benign. The `_meta.json` file contains standard metadata, and the `SKILL.md` file provides detailed linguistic instructions for an AI agent to generate natural-sounding Finnish text. There are no executable commands, no requests for sensitive data, no network calls, and no instructions that could lead to prompt injection or any other malicious activity. The content is purely focused on improving language generation style.
Capability Assessment
Purpose & Capability
The skill name and description (produce natural, not formal Finnish) match the SKILL.md content, which is purely style guidance. It declares no binaries, env vars, or external services — nothing requested is out of scope for a writing-style helper.
Instruction Scope
SKILL.md contains concrete guidelines on register (puhekieli vs kirjakieli), pronoun choice, colloquial contractions, fillers, expressions, and a simple 'native test'. It does not instruct reading files, environment variables, contacting external endpoints, or collecting user data; scope is limited to how to generate text.
Install Mechanism
There is no install spec and no code files. Being instruction-only means nothing is written to disk or downloaded — minimal installation risk.
Credentials
The skill requires no environment variables, credentials, or config paths. The behaviour described is achievable purely by prompting/model behavior; there is no disproportionate access requested.
Persistence & Privilege
always:false and default autonomous invocation are used (normal). The skill does not request persistent system-level presence or modify other skills or configs.
How to Use
  1. Make sure OpenClaw is installed (local or Docker)
  2. Run the install command in chat: /install finnish
  3. After installation, invoke the skill by name or use /finnish
  4. Provide required inputs per the skill's parameter spec and get structured output
